Obviously everyone on the planet needs to see this movie ASAP if they haven’t already and even if they have. On first watch, it’s a hysterical clusterfuck of insanity and cheesy FX but eventually you realize there’s a whole lot about femininity and Japanese post-war culture hidden underneath it all. Ugh, I wish I had my DVD with me.

Watched one of my favorite movies last night, Grey Gardens. Technically I watched it 1.5 times since I put the commentary on and fell asleep watching it again…I started making screencaps but then I realized I wanted to cap every single frame and it was just too much hassle. I wish I knew how to make GIFs!
Obviously Little Edie is a huge icon of mine but I’ve started to come around to loving Big Edie too…She and the rest of the film remind me of just how much I love my mom, as dysfunctional as we are together. Add in my obsessions with Tangled and Black Swan and I’m really working out all my Mommy Issues via cinema therapy.
Went to Hollywood for the afternoon for some shopping with my mom. We went to this hipster flea market at a spot called Space 15 Twenty, where I found a button-up top with this amazing 80’s/90’s bow print on it. Pink isn’t really the most flattering color on me, but it’s so unusual to find something that fits in vintage that I couldn’t help myself. The biggest highlights of the trip were finding used copies at Amoeba Records of two of the greatest films of the 70’s, Grey Gardens and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, and having the most delicious burger of my life at Umami Burger.
Seriously, I’m not usually into the whole burger as religious experience thing, but I may be a convert. I am a fry-aholic, and normally no matter how good a burger is, I’m more interested in the fries even if they’re crappy. In this case, the fries were covered with truffle cheese and roasted garlic aioli, but the eponymous Umami Burger actually distracted me from their deliciousness. Believe the hype! Best. Burger. Evar.
